Captive-Bolt Training Course - 23 April 2026

Title: Captive-Bolt Training Course

Venue: The Boxmoor Trust Centre , London Road, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, HP1 2RE

Date: 23 April 2026 - 10:00am to 3:00pm

Cost: £250 per person


Course Overview

The day will include:

  • A theory session delivered via PowerPoint. Topics will include the principles of humane killing, relevant UK legislation, the use, safety and maintenance of captive bolt devices.
  • A practical equipment-handling and firing session, where participants will use a range of devices and fire them into our training models. This will allow you to gain confidence in using the devices in a controlled and safe setting.
  • A cleaning and maintenance session for the equipment used.

Please note:

  • No live animals will be used at any point during the training.
  • There will not be a WATOK licence assessment during the training session.
  • The captive-bolt devices used at the session will be the CASH Small Animal Tool (commonly used for poultry, lambs and piglets), the CASH Special (used for larger animals such as sheep and cattle). More information on these devices can be found here https://www.accles-shelvoke.com/tools# We also plan to have an example of a Blitz device, either Kerner (large animals) or Schlag (small animals).  
  • Participants must bring their own packed lunch.
  • PPE (eye protection and earplugs) will be provided.
  • Tea and coffee will be provided by the venue. Please advise if you require any alternative milks.
  • If you have any accessibility needs, let us know before booking so we can confirm arrangements with the venue.
  • An attendance certificate will be sent to all participants following the course
  • If you have your own captive-bolt devices you are welcome to bring them with you, however we will only be firing HSA owned equipment due to insurance restrictions.
