HSA Travel, Training and Other Events Grant

Open for Application

The HSA promotes the humane treatment of all animals kept for food or other products during transport, marketing, slaughter, and killing for welfare reasons and disease control

The Travel, Training and Other Events grant is for non-research events, such as attending or organising educational or scientific meetings, lectures, courses, or training visits; or for other small (non-research) events in support of the objectives of the HSA.

Applications for research funding of more than £5,000 should be made via a Large Research Grant.
Applications for research funding of less than £5,000 should be made via a Small Research Grant.

If your project is not specifically focused on animal welfare during transport, at markets, or during slaughter or emergency killing, then please consider applying for a grant from our sister charity, the Universities Federation for Animal Welfare (UFAW) instead. UFAW supports a wide variety of projects across all animal species.

How to apply

Please visit ourFrequently Asked Questionspage and read carefully the  Terms and Conditions for HSA Travel, Training and Other Events before submitting an application.

Completed application forms are accepted throughout the year. However, please ensure that any request for funding is submitted at least two months before the event/travel start date. Applications received outside of this timeframe will not be eligible for funding.

Please ensure that animal welfare is the main focus of the event. We do not support projects in which the main focus is a non-welfare parameter, for example, animal production, or the improvement of meat quality. The animal welfare benefits must be stated very clearly.

You can see some of our recently supported projects on the HSA website: Recent Projects.
