Humane Slaughter Association

Animal welfare information

During transport, at markets and up to the point of slaughter food animals are particularly vulnerable to potential stressors. With huge numbers of animals involved, the need for best practice based on good understanding of animals' needs, good equipment, facilities and personnel skills is crucial.

Dissemination of information in these areas - through publications, workshops and conferences, training, advisory and consultation services, research and development - is a core part of the HSA's work in seeking to achieve and continually improve best practice.

Publications provide a wide range of information on animal transport, marketing and slaughter. They include those suitable for concerned members of the public and those providing more in-depth technical resources for people in the livestock industry, veterinary profession and students.
